Whidbey's Winter Farmers Market Runs on a Tuesday Deadline

Whidbey's three big farmers markets close within eight days of each other this month. The North Central Whidbey Farmers Market in Coupeville goes first on Saturday, Oct. 10. Bayview Farmers Market follows on Saturday, Oct. 17, and South Whidbey Tilth closes the next day, Sunday, Oct. 18. Island farms keep selling after that. The weekly rhythm changes, though. From November into spring, the most complete way to buy from Whidbey growers is an order window that closes Tuesday at 9 p.m., with pickup on Friday afternoon at a farm stand, the fairgrounds or the chamber office.

Once you know that schedule, winter shopping gets much easier. The farms, stands and grocers below all feed into it.

The Last Three Market Days, in Order

  1. Saturday, Oct. 10, Coupeville Community Green, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The final Coupeville market is also the third annual Coupeville Harvest Fair. Expect a pumpkin patch, a hay bale maze, face painting and a penny carnival, so bring spare change. The Freeland-based Queen-Bee Pantry will collect canned food there, especially Thanksgiving staples.
  2. Saturday, Oct. 17, Bayview Farmers Market. Its last day of the April-through-October season.
  3. Sunday, Oct. 18, South Whidbey Tilth. The last date in Tilth's 2026 market series, which began May 17.

Bayview and Tilth aren't planning anything special for their final days. For anyone who buys a week's vegetables at a stall, Oct. 18 is the last weekend of that habit until spring.

The Food Hub Is the Off-Season Market

The Whidbey Island Grown Cooperative's Food Hub is a year-round online marketplace. It connects shoppers with more than 50 producers. Some of them farm in neighboring counties, so the hub mostly carries island-grown food without being limited to it. Retail customers register for free and order between Friday at noon and Tuesday at 9 p.m. The hub doesn't ship. Orders are picked up on Friday afternoon at one of these sites:

  • Langley: Whidbey Island Fairgrounds, 819 Camano Ave., 3 to 5 p.m.
  • Freeland: Mutiny Bay Blues Farmstand, 5486 Cameron Rd., 4 to 6 p.m.
  • Coupeville: Scenic Isle Farm, 46 S. Ebey Rd., 4 to 6 p.m.
  • Oak Harbor: Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce, 32630 SR 20, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Home delivery: Fridays from noon to 4 p.m., for a $15 fee.

Coupeville's pickup has moved for October. Scenic Isle Farm runs its pumpkin patch, hay rides and farmstand every weekend this month, so through Oct. 30 Coupeville orders go to Whidbey Provisions at 107 S. Main St. #107, in the same building as Rainshadow Nursery. The remaining October Fridays are Oct. 9, 16, 23 and 30. The Coupeville pickup is listed at Scenic Isle Farm on Ebey Road again for November.

The order window is the part that takes getting used to. A Saturday market lets you see what's on the table and decide on the spot. The Food Hub asks you to plan the week's produce by Tuesday night and then wait until Friday afternoon. The co-op's ordering page has a sign-up for a Monday reminder email, which makes the Tuesday cutoff much easier to remember.

Who Is Selling Through It

John Burks has a lot to do with the hub. He is a founding board member and vice president of the cooperative, and he owns Kettle's Edge Farm near Coupeville. His producer listing describes a wide mix of vegetables and flowers, sold primarily through the Food Hub. If you know Kettle's Edge mainly from the market, the hub is its main channel.

The hub also supplies stores. A 2025 Whidbey News-Times report said its wholesale side served Goose Grocer, Star Store, Whidbey Provisions and 3 Sisters Market, along with other island retailers and food businesses. That means the same farms can reach a grocery shelf through the co-op even if you never place an order yourself.

Farm Stores That Stay Open

Several island farms run their own stores through the winter. Two of them double as Food Hub pickup sites, so the online system and the in-person shopping happen at the same places.

Farm store Location Listed hours What it carries
Mutiny Bay Blues 5486 Cameron Rd., Freeland Year-round, Thu–Sat, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. Blueberries, juice, mushrooms, eggs, Britt's Fermented Foods, Slangin Salmon, vegetables from Rowdy Sprout Farm and Foggy Hill Farm
Foxtail Farm 5442 Shore Meadow Rd., Freeland Year-round, daily during daylight hours Certified-organic seasonal vegetables and fruit, plus mushrooms and blueberries from partner farms
3 Sisters Market 779 Holbrook Rd., Coupeville Year-round, daily, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Local produce, dairy, meat, eggs and baked goods
Fainting Goat Farms 5515 Coles Rd., Langley Year-round, daily during daylight hours Seasonal produce, fruit, eggs and honey

Mutiny Bay Blues works almost like a small winter market on its own. The store stocks vegetables from two other farms next to its own mushrooms and eggs, and on Friday afternoons it becomes the Freeland Food Hub pickup. Its posted hours end at 1 p.m. and the Friday pickup starts at 4, so a Friday store visit and a Friday hub order can't be combined in one trip.

Foxtail Farm is one place to check hours before you go. Its own website says daylight hours every day, while an older farm-stand directory lists fixed winter hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The South Whidbey School Farm Stand has a similar problem. It's listed as self-service, open around the clock from April through December, with student-grown winter squash when available, but two guides give two different addresses. Confirm the location before you drive out.

The Grocery Aisle Version

Some farms sell straight to island grocers. Deep Harvest Farm says its produce is sold at Payless and Star Store. Mutiny Bay Blues lists granola and frozen and dried blueberries at Star Store in Langley, fresh mushrooms and granola at Payless in Freeland, mushrooms, eggs and granola at Greenbank Pantry, and granola and dried products at 3 Sisters in Coupeville. The Goose Community Grocer is in Bayview Center at 14485 WA-525 #4, near the Bayview Farmers Market grounds.

Shares and Storage Boxes

A CSA share gives you a fixed weekly pickup without the Tuesday order. Deep Harvest Farm's 2026 fall share runs Oct. 6 through Nov. 24 and costs $250 for a petite share or $375 for a regular one. Its December storage share is a single box on Dec. 1 for $85, described as 25-plus pounds of squash, alliums, roots and hearty greens. Pickup is at the farm in Freeland or in the Bayview Hall parking lot. The farm's payment deadline was Sept. 1 and the page says shares fill, so email [email protected] to ask what's still available. The storage box is a single delivery, and the farm hasn't posted a winter or spring 2027 share.

What Is Still Unannounced

Holiday markets usually fill some of the gap, but no 2026 dates had been posted as of Oct. 4. Last year Bayview held holiday markets on Nov. 29, Dec. 13 and Dec. 20 at 5624 Bayview Road, and South Whidbey Tilth held one on Nov. 16 at 2812 Thompson Road. Those are 2025 dates. Tilth's current calendar runs only through Oct. 18, and Bayview's site doesn't list a 2026 winter schedule yet. Until those markets announce dates, the dependable weekly options are the Friday Food Hub pickup, the four farm stores in the table, and the Freeland and Langley grocers listed above.

Island land and island food are closely tied, and much of the farming here happens on the kind of acreage Team Langley works with every season. If you're thinking about land on Whidbey to grow on, whether that's a market garden or a few raised beds, start your island story and schedule a consultation.
